Live with a daily budget of 11.13 dkk (if you are in Denmark) for 5 consecutive days, and fundraise for a charity that fights poverty. That’s the concept of the TastePoverty Challenge, a new campaign that BetterNow together with nine charities are developing in order to raise awareness about extreme poverty.

October 17th is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, a day dedicated to promoting awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries. It is a day both for recognising the progress that has been made so far in the fight to eradicate poverty, as well as to acknowledge the hard work that remains in order to truly eliminate poverty worldwide.

In connection with this event, we dare you to experience some of the challenges somebody living in poverty might face. How? By walking in their shoes, by living below the poverty line for 5 days.

How does the TastePoverty Challenge work?

Simple! Once you accept it you have to:

1. Live on a budget of 55.65 dkk between the 26th and 30th of October .

2. Create a fundraiser for a charity of your choice.

3. Encourage three friends to complete the challenge with you.

The purpose is not to get you starved. In fact, the main objective is to fundraise money in a different way, so we can raise awareness about the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty.

Though it sounds tough, with careful planning and preparation it is possible to complete the challenge, and by doing so to encourage both yourself and those around you to view hunger and poverty from a different perspective. Additionally, by creating a fundraiser for one of the amazing charities involved with the challenge, you can inspire your network to donate to a worthy cause.

Interested? Of course you are! And we haven’t told you everything yet. Before starting the challenge, you can download a handy toolkit, which contains tips, tricks and advice for all stages of the challenge, from planning your budget, finding recipes, and making fundraising online both easy and efficient.

We can’t wait to see how much can be raised for the wonderful charities involved, or to follow the progress of participants using the hashtag #tastepovertychallenge.
